Annual Report 2008: 
As Thomas Friedman states in a recent column, the events of 2008 confirmed that we live “in a world where the ability to imagine and generate new ideas with speed and to implement them through global collaboration is the most important competitive advantage”. With its global outreach and its focus on collaboration in science and technology the swissnex network proves that Switzerland understands where the competition lies and devises strategies to stay ahead of the pack. In Boston, our efforts continued to focus on “connecting the dots”, as the swissnex motto says, and on “putting Switzerland on the map” a goal that Swiss Ambassador Urs Ziswiler encourages all Swiss organizations in the US to aspire to. All our activities, from welcoming Swiss visitors to organizing large events, aim to increase the visibility of Swiss science and technology while also providing a networking platform for our guests and partners.
“Change” was a word often repeated during the presidential campaign this year and it certainly rang true for our operations as well. While our second floor pavilion was being built, we continued to operate from the Cambridge Innovation Center in Kendall Square. The team adapted to being outside our regular space by resourcefully finding new locations for events. From the banks of the Charles River to the fabulous Institute of Contemporary Art and the classrooms of all major universities, we recreated a Swiss ambiance through the use of atmospheric displays, authentic Swiss dishes and top-notch hospitality. In return these newly found partners invited us to their events and included us in various programs.
More generally, it is important to remember that none of our events could happen without someone carrying a message, developing an idea or telling a story. Strong contacts are only constructed with support and collaboration. We exist through our efforts to motivate others and to innovatively create new areas of cooperation. As we depend on expertise, financial support, and creativity, this is our principal opportunity to thank all those who lend their time or resources to the success of our activities. The beauty of the swissnex platform is that it allows for flexibility and innovation. We look forward to strengthen our growing collaboration with all of you.
