Zimoun – Solo Exhibitions in New York
February and March will see three simultaneous solo exhibitions of the impressive sound architecture and installation artist Zimoun. The Simons Center Gallery at Stony Brook University on Long Island will celebrate its exhibition opening on Thursday, February 5 at 5pm, preceded by an artist talk by Zimoun at 4pm; the Knockdown Center in Flushing will open its exhibit on Saturday, February 7 starting at 2pm; and bitforms gallery in the Lower East Side on Sunday, February 8 at 4pm.
Using simple and functional components, Zimoun builds architecturally-minded platforms of sound. Exploring mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared systems, his installations incorporate commonplace industrial objects. In an obsessive display of simple and functional materials, these works articulate a tension between the orderly patterns of Modernism and the chaotic forces of life. Carrying an emotional depth, the acoustic hum of natural phenomena in Zimoun’s minimalist constructions effortlessly reverberates.
