8000 International Educators gather in Vancouver B.C. to share their experience
For once Bostonians were not particularly welcome in Vancouver. A restaurant called “Boston Pizza” had to rename itself to “Canucks Pizza” to make any business during the Stanley Cup Finals, which happened to be the time when thousands of international educators flooded the city. However, even as a very lonely “Bruins” supporter, I felt very much at home meeting all my fellow Swiss partners representing all Swiss institutions of higher education at the world’s largest and most important conference on international education.
Besides supporting the Swiss agencies of Higher Education (CRUS and KFH), as well as the consulate General of Vancouver for the country fair, swissnex Boston fulfilled another important mission. Together with Christoph Ebell, Science Councilor at the Swiss Embassy in Washington DC, Jacqueline Gasser-Beck had the honor to present a session at the main conference, addressing the question on how the vocational education system in the U.S. and abroad tackles the challenge to train a skilled workforce for the future (Globalizing International Education and Training). Knowing that we are training the workforce for a global economy, the Swiss pilot project of internationalizing VET (India initiative) aimed to encourage U.S. Community Colleges to consider knowledge sharing and interaction with Swiss partners.
