Black Cloud: Data Measurement of the swissnex Boston-Environment
Last week we received our Black Cloud-Box which measures our environment’s CO2 level, volatilic organic compounds (VOCs), light (brightness), temperature and noise (in dB). The Black Cloud-Box at swissnex Boston is part of a project organized by Greg Niemeyer. Other cities that host a Black Cloud-Box are Seoul, Cape Town, Kathmandu, Dubai, Vancouver, Shanghai, San Francisco, Brasilia, Zurich and New Delhi. swissnex San Francisco and Pro Helvetia are official partners of the Black Cloud Project. There is also an exhibit and a workshop planed in Zurich this summer.
We put the box in different places within the office and it was very interesting to see how the data changed over time. The first day we experienced some changes on the light parameter, due to sunrise and sunset, but in addition we also found out that pictures on the wall do have an influence on the Black Cloud-Box. As we had an event in the evening, some pictures were removed from the wall and suddenly the Black Cloud-Box measured a brighter light than before due to the reflection of the white wall.
During the concert of Jean Pierre Huser we were focusing on the noise-parameter which increased as expected (as one can see in the graphics below [black graph]). So did the VOC-parameter [red graph] due to the reception that took place during the event where we served wine.
We are excited to continue comparing the measured data of upcoming events at swissnex Boston to find a way to improve the environment at swissnex Boston.
