Book launch "Schooling in the Workplace" by Nancy Hoffman
Book launch "Schooling in the Workplace" by Nancy Hoffman
In her newest book, "Schooling in the Workplace", Nancy Hoffman, who is the Vice President of the Boston-based NGO "Jobs for the Future", makes a compelling case for the importance of integrating learning and working in a vocational education program. "The purpose", she argues, "is not 'college for all', as in the United States today, but rather to provide the education and training young people need to prepare for a career, or calling". Aimed at stimulating a discussion about the features of a strong vocational training system, she examines the vocational education systems of six countries, including Switzerland. According to Ms. Hoffman, Switzerland offers one of, "the strongest and most imaginative apprenticeship programs in the world". This was highlighted again at her book launch, which was attended by approximately 40 people, including the Secretary of Education of the State of Massachusetts, Paul Reville.
