Last April 8 and 9, swissnex Boston hosted a delegation from the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland within the framework of “Networking New York”, an annual project organized by students in business administration in order to identify the advantages of professional networking. Their two-week trip to the USA also included a short stay in Washington, where they were welcomed at the Embassy of Switzerland, and several business meetings in New York City.

During their visit in Boston, the group was first hosted at the Consulate where Pascal Marmier led a discussion on the business and innovation opportunities in the Boston area. This talk was followed by a meeting with Tom Simon, Program & Business Development Manager of the Europe Institute at Babson College who summarized the main characteristics of a business curriculum in the USA compared to Europe. In the afternoon, the delegation visited two Switzerland-related companies: EVS, the official distributor of Nespresso coffee machines in Boston (discussion with Gregory Mandin, Sales Manager) and CIC-based Buzzient, whose CTO, Andreas Goeldi, presented the differences between entrepreneurship in the USA and in Switzerland.

The second day was more focused on the academic side of Boston with the guided tours of MIT and Harvard campuses led by the students Philipp Reist, (MIT CSAIL), Joelle Becker and Philipp Fisher (Harvard Law School). The schedule was completed by a presentation on the economical potential of the online community moderated by Andrei Villaroel, postdoctoral fellow at the Sloan School of Management. The visit ended with an interactive workshop at the Harvard Business School during which Ueli Friedli, from the MBA class 2010 and two fellow students shared their own business experiences with the students from NYNW.
