Last year, the Fribourg School of Business Administration (part of the University of Applied Sciences) launched a master program with a major in Entrepreneurship (Innovation and Growth).

From October 22 to 24, twenty students of the class of 2010 and the director of the program, Rico Baldegger, visited swissnex, after having participated in a 10-day seminar at the University of Vermont in Burlington. The goal of their stay in Boston was to meet with local entrepreneurs, students and faculty members in order to get an insight of the innovation landscape in the Boston area.

They first visited the Lindt & Sprüngli factory in Stratham, New Hampshire, where they had the chance to discuss the sale strategy with CEO Lindmayr and Vice President Operations Wildberger.

The evening was dedicated to a roundtable discussion at swissnex Boston with a group of students from the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard (TECH) and representatives of the young entrepreneurial scene. The reception was held around the topic of challenges that student entrepreneurs face and the debate was moderated by Paul Bottino, director of TECH.

During the second day of the program, the delegation visited Micronotes, a CIC-based company whose CEO Devon Kinkead introduced the process of launching an innovation centered start-up in the USA. The group also met Marc Rioult, licencing officer at MIT, for a talk about the topic of technology transfer. In the afternoon, the students analysed a Harvard Business School case (Apple Inc, 2008). The seminar was led by Jerry Schaufeld, professor of entrepreneurship at WPI. They ended their stay with a visit of the MIT campus and the Harvard Business School.
