Café des Sciences #35 at Novartis: Combined approaches to drug development
Two Novartis postdocs kicked off the 2011 season of the Café des Sciences with exciting breakthrough research.
On January 27, Miguel Barthéléry and Florian Nigsch, researchers at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) were introduced by Samuel Gosselin, NIBR’s director of Operational Alliances. Miguel’s research in proteomics aims to better understand the development of brain cancer through stem cells. Florian introduced the audience to a computational approach to biomedical research. Through the integration of chemical and biological data, Florian develops models to predict the reaction of molecular systems and, in so doing, optimizing research on future drugs.
The Café des Sciences is a monthly gathering of the Boston area’s French-Speaking scientific community around the slogan “Parler de science en Francais.” With new speakers every month, the Café explores topics ranging from Biotechnology to Web 2.0, Engineering to the Humanities and Entrepreneurship. It is organized by the Office for Science and Technology of the Consulate General of France, the French American Chamber of Commerce (check out their blog!), the Quebec Government Office, Hubtech 21 and swissnex Boston.
The next event takes place on February 22. Stay tuned to the Café’s website - click here for more info.
