Consular Soccer Cup: “In the end, Germany always wins…”!

Nov 16, 2011 11:01 AM

The famous English striker Gary Lineker used to say: “Soccer is a game for 22 people that run around, play the ball, and in the end Germany always wins.”

Apparently this rule also applies when teams of 6 players representing the foreign representations of the Boston area decide to brave the rain and meet on the MIT soccer pitch on the occasion of the annual Consular Soccer Cup.

France, Italy, Romania, Mexico, Israel, UK, Ireland,…Once again, this year’s edition gathered the best local soccer-diplomats whose ultimate goal was to succeed the British Consulate General, winner in 2010. For the first time in 3 editions, an American team – composed of the bravest BWP connectors –tried to challenge the European soccer hegemony. But in the end – in spite of two teams of fighting fit Swiss entrepreneurs and a squad of talented French Chefs ready to spice up the competition - the Consulate General of Germany won the title after beating a solid Romanian team in final!

This event mixing soccer with a good dose of social networking was a joint initiative of Boston World Partnerships, the Consulate General of France and swissnex Boston. It was organized with the great support of Social Boston Sports and the generous contributions of Murtha Cullina and the following restaurants:

La Voile

Pierrot Bistrot

Petit Robert Bistro

Sandrine's Bistro
