Decoding Copenhagen Panel Discussion on Nov 20th

Nov 24, 2009 11:02 AM

On November 20th, swissnex Boston hosted a panel discussion on "Decoding Copenhagen" as a preparation for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009 and to discuss questions such as "What is really at stake in Copenhagen", "What is the position of the USA, China, India, Switzerland?", or "Can we expect concrete outcomes?" With anticipation of the results in the actual conference, guests had the chance to ask the two experts their most urgent questions on climate change in an informal gathering accompanied by a Swiss style breakfast. The first speaker was Prof. Martin Beniston, Chair for Climate Research at the Institute of Environmental Sciences, University of Geneva, who spoke directly from Geneva through a web-based platform. Subsequently, Dr. Jurgen Weiss, leader of climate/carbon practice at the Brattle Group in Boston, gave an insight and opinion on climate change, which led to a vivid discussion. Even though the outcome of the actual UN Conference in Copenhagen is uncertain, the meeting at swissnex inspired the participants to think about the topic and to promote exchange among the guests from various sectors: academia, industry, think tanks, NGOs and further people with an interest in the topic.
