Design and Global Challenges: Closing Reception at swissnex Boston
Dec 08, 2010 05:04 PM
In 2009 the World Economic Forum (WEF) launched its new Global Redesign Initiative around the question "How can the architecture of global cooperation be redesigned not only to accommodate our deeper interdependence but also to capitalize on it?"
To gather feedback on this initiative, to identify gaps and deficiencies in international cooperation and to formulate new proposals, the WEF set up a brainstorming discussion with Harvard University Graduate School of Design on October 14. The dialogue focused on six areas - Global Governance, International Monetary System, Population Growth, Skills Gap, Trade, and Values) - and gathered high-profile faculty and students from the main Schools of Harvard University (Kennedy School of Government, Law School, School of Public Health, Faculty of Arts and Science, GSD).
In view of the close ties that the Swiss Federal Government entertains with the WEF in Switzerland and around the world, swissnex Boston was proud to host the closing reception of the workshop. Several of the faculty and many of the students joined Dean Mostafavi and colleagues of the GSD to continue discussions about the power of design in various fields.
Every year in February, swissnex Boston organizes a debriefing of the WEF Annual meeting in Davos with participants to the Forum from the Boston area who share the outcomes of the event and discuss the main issues covered by the WEF agenda. This annual round table discussion is moderated by Paul Smyke, Senior Advisor to the Chairman at the WEF and member of the Advisory Board of swissnex Boston.colleagues of the GSD to continue discussions about the power of design in various fields.
