Donation to help stem malaria spread

Nov 22, 2010 06:05 PM

Efforts at knowledge-building and idea generation towards solving the world’s most pressing problems would be for naught if there wasn’t a focus on human rights. Over the years, swissnex Boston has proven this through both large-scale exhibits (at Logan International Airport) and intimate discussions (between students and prominent UN representatives).

Most recently, swissnex Boston donated $500 to the Ahoto Partnership for Ghana, part of the “Stop Malaria” campaign to improve healthcare in Accra slums.
For joining this fight, swissnex Boston was invited to the “Impact Africa” seminar on September 29 at Harvard University among several student groups:
1.         Harvard Africa Students Association;
2.         Harvard College Africa Business and Investment Club; and,
3.         Africa Development Initiative.

Andreas Rufer made his maiden presentation as Deputy Consul, detailing swissnex Boston’s human rights efforts as well as the team members’ missions in science, innovation and education. This sparked much interest among the attendees who—over delicious Swiss cookies—discussed with Mr. Rufer how they, too, could “connect the dots.”

The best of Switzerland was also on show. Given that the audience comprised students and faculty in global health and human rights, DVDs, brochures and hardcovers on Switzerland’s human rights and direct democracy were on display.
