More strides needed on regional innovation policy

Nov 22, 2010 11:11 AM

A hectic week-long schedule did not deter a visiting delegation from Northwestern Switzerland from tackling on their last day the serious issue of “Networks in Regional Innovation Policy: Success factors and challenges ahead.”

The expert roundtable over a sumptuous Swiss breakfast took place at swissnex Boston on October 8, 2010, among specially invited guests from Massachusetts. The prominent local actors in innovation policy were present not only to listen in at the successes and challenges taking place in Basel, but also to share their own visions for the Boston area.

The interactive presentations and discussions featured i-net BASEL, Creapole, the Massachusetts Technology Transfer Center and respective regional companies.

What emerged was a consensus on the need for more high-level discussion and agreement on localized innovation support. This includes not only policy but also financial grants and networking assistance. Guests from both sides of the Atlantic also commented on the active role of the community as a driving force in innovation policy creation.
