SHARE and Nanodimension

Jun 27, 2008 03:47 PM

SHARE and Nanodimension joined forces - for the second time - to put together a Nanotech private equity briefing. As research and business development efforts in nanotechnology continue to expand around the world, the briefing came at the right time for investors anxious to learn more about the business impact of nanotechnology.

Pascal Marmier, adviser for innovation and entrepreneurship at SHARE, started the event by greeting the audience comprised of representatives from the high-tech and investment communities. Aymeric Sallin, Founder and Managing Partner of NanoDimension, one of the first nanotechnology venture capital company, focusing on IT/Electronics and Life Science gave an overview of recent nanotechnology developments and its potential in various industries.

Next, three entrepreneurs presented their activities to demonstrate that real business cases exist around the development and use of nanotechnologies:

James Gowers presented the activities of Nano-Terra, a development and licensing company - co-founded by Prof. George Whitesides of Harvard University - working with smart materials and surfaces that are created using soft lithography, molecular self-assembly and other nano- and meso-scale assembly fabrication methods.

Tapesh Yadav was next. He is the founder of NanoProducts Corporation, which developed, established and patented multiple processes for manufacturing affordable, high performance nanomaterials in commercial volumes. The company’s product portfolio includes a wide range of nanoscale powders used in a wide range of industries including coatings, electronics, photonics, biotechnology, personal care, plastics, thermal, energy, sensor, information technologies and automotive. Tapes shared his experience in starting and growing NanoProducts Corp. up to the trade sale to a large industrial manufacturer. Paul Blackborow, the CEO of Energetiq TechnologyEnergetiq, a developer and manufacturer of short wavelength light sources (1nm to 250nm range ) explained the the various applications of his company light sources.

A lively Q&A followed with the audience engaging the panelists in a discussion about the promises of nanotechnology and the best ways to capitalize on them.
