Swiss flicks shine at the European Short Film Festival
Of 300 submissions from 30 countries, eight Swiss short films made the cut at the 7th Annual European Short Film Festival (ESFF) in Boston. Taking place at MIT from April 1-3, 2011, this year’s ESFF offered more films than ever before, focusing on both productions from European film schools and award-winning entries from other recent festivals. swissnex Boston co-organized and co-sponsored this year’s ESFF. As a result of this involvement, eight Swiss films were screened on days 1 and 2 of the Festival. Five were produced by graduate students of ECAL, the University of Art and Design in Lausanne (Angela by David Maye, Cappucino by Tamer Ruggli, Kwa Heri Mandima by Robert-Jean Lacombe, Les Princes by Christophe Giordani and Ultima Donna by Tristan Aymon). |  |
 | Two short films were made by students of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Lucerne (Evermore by Philip Hofmänner and Heimatland by Loretta Arnold, Andrea Schneider, Marius Portmann and Fabio Friedli). And Ronaldo was made by Jan Mettler of the Zurich University of the Arts. Hundreds of viewers enjoyed the rich palette of films—from fiction and animation to documentaries and experimental films—from more than 15 European countries. As we continue connecting the dots in the arts and science, swissnex Boston aims to make this year’s ESFF the beginning of an annual tradition. We are grateful to ESFF Director Kurt Fendt and to the three Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences for their collaboration in showcasing Swiss films at a top level in the Greater Boston Area. |
