swissnex Boston rolled out the red carpet for Cambridge’s annual GoGreen Award!
The month of May is Cambridge’s green month. While the GoGreen award is normally celebrated in the City Hall annex, this year we added some fresh (Swiss) spirit. swissnex Boston was happy to roll out its red carpet, showcasing its engagement in sustainability to the community.
The well-attended event celebrated the achievements of Cambridge’s businesses and organizations in energy conservation, waste reduction, storm water management and sustainable transportation. The celebrities were Richard Rossi, Deputy City Manager, who presented the awards with a big smile:” This is the St. Patrick's day of sustainability.” Additionally, Sam Seidel, Cambridge City Councilor, and Henrietta Davis, Vice Major of City of Cambridge, both cheered on this year’s winners.
And the happy winners were:
Akamai Technologies was recognized as a leader for its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Shady Hill School got cited for its energy conservation efforts and Homeowner’s Rehab, MIT and the Museum of Science received the award for their energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
For providing subsidies for transit and bicycling and for their exemplary employee commute survey, the Volpe Transportation Center received the transportation award for a large organization. The small organization award went to the Charles River Transportation Management Association, which provides its members with the EZRide Shuttle and an emergency ride home service for employees who don’t drive to work. City employees also receiving awards: Wayne Amaral and Adam Shulman. They were honored for their efforts to foster sustainable transportation.
Do you know any businesses dedicated to waste reduction? Cambridge Common Restaurant and the Hotel Marlowe reduced their waste to zero and on top of offering delicious food. Watermark Cambridge, a 321-unit full-service apartment building in Kendall Square, won in the category of residential recycling. Transition House received the community sustainability award for its efforts to make its facilities more energy efficient. Bulfinch Companies and Cascap got recognized for their work in reducing storm water runoff and improving water quality.
Congratulations to everyone who foster climate change!
