Tour de swissnex:
In its mission to promote the best of Switzerland’s Science and Higher Education, swissnex must stay aware of what is new and what is next on the Swiss campuses.
To get a better sense of the priorities of the key players of the Swiss research and innovation landscape, a group of swissnex staff members, representing all five offices- Boston, San Francisco, Singapore, Shanghai and Bangalore, toured Switzerland over a 10-day period.
From the two Italian speaking universities in Ticino (USI and SUPSI) to the microtechnology cluster on the Lake of Neuchatel, and from the largest Swiss university in Zurich to the bilingual University of Fribourg, the group got a fresh overview of the international strategies and the flagship research programs on the agenda of those institutions. Additionally, this nation-wide tour provided an opportunity for the swissnexes and universities to discuss potential collaborations during the coming years.
The swissnex network is grateful to the partners that organized the visits and thank them for the promising discussions:
The University of Lugano – University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland - Swiss Re - The University of Zurich - The University of Neuchatel – Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) – HES-Arc – Creaholic - ETH Zurich - The Swiss Foundations - Commission for Technology and Innovation CTI – The Science et Cité Foundation – The University of Fribourg – The College of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg
swissnex Day:
In parallel to this first tour de Suisse, the third swissnex Day, hosted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, enhanced swissnex’s recent activities around the topics of the “Future Cities.” A panel of experts, ranging from Swiss architect Mario Botta and entrepreneur Edouard Lambelet to ETH professors Marc Angelil and Kay Axhausen and representative of Zurich Municipal Office of Urban Development Anna Schindler, discussed how the challenges faced by mega cities in the US, Singapore, China and India will impact Switzerland. The discussion focused on four hot-topics: Sustainable buildings, transport and mobility, digital culture in cities and public-private partnership for smarter cities.
The swissnex Day was part of a broader 3-day program, gathering the Swiss Science and Technology counselors stationed around the World.
