swissnex reaches out to University of New Hampshire
The University of New Hampshire (UNH) invited swissnex’s Sebastien Hug, Project Leader for Higher Education and Partnerships, and Andreas Rufer, Deputy Consul, to visit the institution during its “Swiss Week” on November 1, 2011. The representatives of swissnex Boston were received by Claire Malarte-Feldman, Professor of French and Director of the UNH Center for International Education, who gave an interesting overview about the State University and, more specifically, about the Center for International Education. There are currently no partnerships with Swiss universities. However, both parties acknowledged that such partnerships, preferably in the field of Business and Technology, could be beneficial for UNH and Swiss institutions. Swissnex will follow-up on these suggestions.
During a common lunch with some faculty members and students of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, Sebastien and Andreas had further possibilities to get to know the School and its philosophy. In the afternoon the representatives of swissnex had then the opportunity to present swissnex Boston, to talk about Public Diplomacy as well as the Swiss Foreign Service. Andreas explained in form of “Storytelling” the adventures and challenges of being a diplomat. The students, some of them taking courses in international affairs, showed a big interest in Public Diplomacy and the Swiss Foreign Service, the brochures and information leaflets, as well as of course, the chocolates that swissnex offered as a present.
The University of New Hampshire is a public institution located in the city of Durham, NH near the coastline of the state. Students at UNH can choose from more than 100 majors, including graduate studies in the Whittemore School of Business and Economics, the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and in the fields of education and law.
