The harvard public diplomacy initiative gathers key supporters at swissnex Boston

On 11.11.10, swissnex Boston hosted a reception in honor of the diverse group of people who have been invaluable to the Harvard Public Diplomacy Collaborative over the years. Here are some appreciative comments from the attendees:

Every time I have the pleasure of attending a SwissNex function - whether it is to hear Nobelist Al Gore, or partake in a six course gastronomic extravaganza prepared by Switzerland's top chefs, or hang out at the airport at the launch of an art/science exhibition - I leave buoyed, inspired and brimming with creative possibility. Last week was no different as SwiissNex invited the friends of another of Cambridge's most unique and innovative enterprises, Harvard's Public Diplomacy Collaborative, for a meet and greet.

What an opportunity for academics, busniess types, students and politicos to collide and share their thoughts on topics ranging from social media to psychology, aesthetics to Buddhism. Pascal Marmier, the energetic and athletic Swiss Consul, fresh off a flight from Basel, embodied the trademark enthusiasm and optimism of his consulate. Jed Willard, the intrepid director of the PDC ignited conversations and facilitated the diverse group of guests to exchange ideas and contact information. We were grateful for the opportunity to finally put faces to names we had come to now over the last months and years.

"Connexion - the strength of SwissNex = was alive and well, making attracting new friends, building new alliances and expanding both powerful networks."  - Michele Stanners (Canada)

"Take an hyperactive and talented Jed Willard, from the Public Diplomacy Collaborative of Harvard; add the unique model of Swissnex and the collaboration of the Consul/Director, Pascal Marmier; then top it off with a common motivation: fostering collaboration, sharing experiences and practices, cultures and opinions; and you will reap a harvest of projects. Here are all the ingredients for Public Diplomacy: achieving better results by understanding each other, and meeting people you are not "supposed" to meet."  - David Zylberberg (Belgium)

"The PDC/Swissnex event was an opportunity for those who support public diplomacy and its continued development to learn of each others shared values for the field as well as very differing perspectives. This varying perspectives provide opportunity for future engagement for public diplomacy within technology, media, the arts, and onsite programming." - Erik M. Gregory (USA)
