The Alumni of the University of Geneva celebrate the “Escalade” at swissnex Boston
Dec 13, 2010 04:30 PM
What a better date to gather the alumni of the University of Geneva in Boston than on the eve of the “Fete de l’Escalade”, a celebration that commemorates the defeat of the troops of the Duke of Savoy against the city-state of Geneva in 1602.
With a personalized chocolate cake instead of the traditional “Marmite de l’Escalade”, the alumni of the Boston area enjoyed recalling good memories of their stay in Geneva and reconnected with fellow students and scientists that are pursuing their career in New England.
Additionally, the alumni had the opportunity to chat with Pascal Praplan, director of UNIGE Alumni, via videoconference live from Geneva. After introducing the new UNIGE Alumni online platform, Pascal Praplan discussed the main challenges for a Swiss University in the management of an alumni community and the different cultural approaches between the Swiss and American alumni networks. One of the questions was whether the gratuity of many of the European education systems inhibits the identification with a university and its community. In his conclusion, Pascal Praplan stressed the importance for the University of Geneva to strengthen its community of “ambassadors” in strategic academic regions like the Boston area.
All the formers students of the University of Geneva are invited to join the UNIGE Alumni network by creating their own online profile with a few clicks.
