Andre Mercanzini, a past member of the swissnex venture leaders program, a swissnex collaborative program with the venturelab and CTI, and his company Aleva Neurotherapeutics, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, recently raised a Series A of financing totaling EUR 9.5 million from a distinguished group of investors, including BB Biotech Ventures LP, Initiative Capital Romandie, BioMedInvest AG and other private investors.
Aleva-Neuro was birthed from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) Microsystems Laboratory of Prof. Philippe Renaud. Developing implants for Deep Br
ain Stimulation (DBS), Aleva-Neuro is working to create technology that will reduce side effects and complications from neuro-stimulation in the brain.
The neuro-stimulation market is one of the fastest growing segments in the Central Nervous System sector. With an increase in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and depression, on the rise, Aleva-Neuro uses this niche market to target potential consumers and beneficiaries.
With new goals on the horizon, Mercanzini, Aleva-Neuro’s CTO and cofounder, is hopefully anticipating Aleva-Neuro’s potential successes. “The most exciting times are still ahead of us!”
The proceeds from this past August will fund the newest endeavors by Aleva-Neuro in the microDBS™ technology segment of the corporation.
