Vermont discovers Swiss Design
The Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier opened its doors for the exhibition Swiss Poster Design: 100+ Posters from 50+ Years that included more than 100 posters from Swiss design, and featured a spectacular range of iconic and influential posters from some of the most important designers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Eminent designers, included in the show, range from mid-century masters like Armin Hofmann, Herbert Matter, Bruno Monguzzi, Josef Müller-Brockmann, Emil Ruder and Wolfgang Weingart to contemporary notables including Stefan Sagmeister, Ralph Schraivogel and Martin Woodtli. The exhibition was curated by VCFA faculty members Matthew Monk and Silas Munro, from the private collection of designer Thomas Strong of New Haven, Connecticut, whose generosity made this exhibition possible.
Representatives from swissnex Boston attended the Public opening of this extraordinary exhibition on Friday, October 21, 2011. Andreas Rufer, Deputy Consul, addressed the audience with some words of welcome that ranged from Swiss citizens residing in Vermont, to artists, students and faculty members of the college. The representatives of swissnex Boston were warmly welcomed by the organizers of this project. swissnex Boston acknowledged the importance of the outreach of its activities beyond the Greater Boston area and highlighted the importance of the Arts in connecting knowledge and cultures between Nations.
