We make sustainability real!

As part of the Cambridge Science Festival and supported by ThinkSwiss, swissnex Boston created a wonderful event for children. Kids explored sustainability and energy efficiency of urban living, making sustainability real.
Dr. Ricky Stern (e-inc.) inspired little engineers and their talented parents with posters and buzzwords to build all sorts of houses with recycle materials to launch a future city. Chin Lin (HMFH Architects) offered an Energy Rodeo. He measured and showcased the energy consumption of diverse electrical devices. The parents were stunned about the huge difference an energy efficient light bulb can make.
Furthermore, John Galinato from Built-it-Yourself challenged the kids to drive their remote controlled trucks around an obstacle course. The vehicles were made from premium quality junk and each obstacle represented a recycling activity. Henrietta Davis, currently the City’s Vice Mayor of Cambridge City Council and the Chair of the Council’s Environment Committee, focuses on energy and the environment, non-auto transportation, neighborhood preservation and children’s health. She stopped by at swissnex as our assistant for the „Wheel of Fortune“. Over 120 kids had a great time meeting Henrietta Davis, talking with her about what makes houses sustainable and spinning the wheel of fortune. The raffled prizes were all linked to sustainability and hands-on. | ![]() |
In addition to the diverse workshops and activities geared towards the young ones, swissnex Boston also included insights for adults. The traveling exhibit “Smarter Living – The 2000 Watt Society,“ which was launched in 2009 in Zurich and sponsored by ThinkSwiss, had its first stop at swissnex. The exhibit showcases ways of how to significantly reduce energy consumption through smarter living. People in Cambridge and soon many around the world will get inspired to generate a new understanding of energy efficiency as a key to sustainable development.
