Nicholas Fox Weber will speak on his new biography of
famed Swiss modernist architect Le Corbusier
November 20, 2008, Lecture Hall, 6:00 p.m.
Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts
Harvard University
24 Quincy Street (at Prescott Street)
Cambridge
Massachusetts 02138
Nicholas Fox Weber will give a lecture at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts -- Le Corbusier's only North American building -- to launch the Knopf publication of his new work Le Corbusier: A Life. There are four hundred books on the architect's work yet each barely touches on his life. This is the first full-scale autobiography of Le Corbusier, one of the most influential, admired, and maligned architects of the twentieth century, leader of the controversial modernist movement that sought to create a better society through innovative urban planning, and designer of some of the most iconic buildings of our time. Nicholas Fox Weber delves more deeply than ever before into the details of Le Corbusier's life and work, illuminating his influences, idealism, and discipline, and the evolution of his pioneering architectural and design theories. Weber is the first to have access to, and permission to quote from, Le Corbusier's unpublished, private letters, and journals.
Nicholas Fox Weber is the director of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and the author of over thirteen books, including The Clarks of Cooperstown, Balthus, Patron Saints, and The Art of Babar.
The Harvard Bookstore will be selling books after the lecture, which is free and open to the public.
