Charles River Mile Swim Race

June 15, 2008

Boston

Join the Charles River Swimming Club and the Charles River Conservancy on the banks of the Boston Esplanade on Sunday June 15th for the Second Annual Charles River Mile Swim Race www.charlesriverswimmingclub.org. Swimmers who are interested in participating in the mile swim can sign up for the race here.

The Charles River Swim will mark the kickoff of “Think Swim – Think Swiss”, a project aiming at bringing public swimming back to the Charles River and other rivers in the U.S. As the water quality of the Charles River continues to improve, it is time to make "river swimming" in the United States real. Without relevant examples in the U.S., the exhibition (consisting of panels and a booklet) uses examples of Swiss swimming structures to explore the technology, innovation, environmental implications and cultural impact that Swiss swimming can have on rivers.

For this project, ThinkSwiss (www.thinkswiss.org), a US wide program on Education, Research and Innovation under the auspices of Presence Switzerland (PRS), the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER) and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs will be partnering with The Charles River Conservancy (www.thecharles.org) which has been leading the charge to bring public swimming back to the Charles River.
