Please join Andrew Panos-President-Language Access Network and Marianne Starlander, University of Geneva for a great webinar to discuss the use of translation breakthroughs to improve communication with multilingual patients in this critical healthcare setting:
Andrew Panos-President- Language access Network. Andrew Panos knows how difficult it can be to navigate a health system, especially when faced with a language barrier. His brother nearly died in a Mexican hospital simply because he did not speak Spanish. This growing need for fast and accurate interpretation services prompted Mr. Panos to form the Language Access Network in 2003.
Marianne Starlander, is currently a PhD candidate at the School of Translation and Interpretation at the University of Geneva, Marianne has always been interested in informatics and in how to help translators integrate technology in their daily life, which is why she specialized in natural language processing and in IT for translators. Originally trained as a translator, Marianne speaks French, English, German, Spanish and Swedish fluently. She has been involved in the research project MedSLT since its start in October 2003. The aim of the project is the development of an automatic spoken language translator capable of breaking the language barrier through innovative technology.
