The Internet offers an entirely different channel for understanding how people form social networks, but also how they influence each other by online communication. We learn about people’s opinions, their product preferences, their emotions by analyzing their digital traces in blogs, for, online chats, or product reviews. The massive datasets that become available also put a challenge on the social sciences: how to extract meaningful information, how to quantify social influence, and how to model the behavior of online users? We give answers to these questions from two different perspectives: Frank Schweitzer will analyze emotional influence, while David Lazer will discuss how digital traces reveal the pattern of our social relationships.
The event will take place on 29th November 2011 at swissnex Boston and starts at 6.30pm.
If you would like to attend this event, please RSVP
ETH Alumni and swissnex Boston are looking forward to meeting you.
