EXCELLENT SWISS DESIGN features selections from the Design Prize Switzerland, a biennial award that for twelve years has recognized advancements in the areas of communication, fashion, furniture, interior, product, and textile design.This exhibition showcases innovative projects, from laser-engraved textiles to a faucet that reduces water consumption by 90% to a running shoe that reimagines impact through a hollow-core sole. Celebrating ingenuity and sustainability, this exhibition pioneers a new vision for contemporary design.

Lecture 

 

“MAKING A BOOK”  with Ludovic Balland 

Join us for a lecture by Ludovic Balland with moderated Q&A session, followed by a networking reception. The lecture will provide thoughts and images about structure, format, haptic and cover design for books.

Ludovic Balland is currently one of the best and most renowned graphic designers/typographers in Switzerland. He is the founder and director of “Ludovic Balland Typography Cabinet” in Basel, Switzerland since 2004. The cabinet focuses on book design and more generally in editorial design and new visual identities for international brands and cultural institutions.

Besides working as a practitioner, he teaches editorial design at ECAL, the Cantonal Art School in Lausanne. He gives regular workshops in the EU and the US. Balland is the recipient of the Swiss Federal Design Award for “Warsaw under Construction.” Clients of his among others: Vitra, Fondation Beyeler, The Swiss National Museum Zurich, Christ & Gantenbein Architects, Herzog & de Meuron.

Lecture 

“DESIGN MUSEUM MORNINGS” with INCHFurniture 

 

INCHFurniture is a Basel, Switzerland-based firm founded by Swiss Designers, Thomas Wüthrich and Yves Raschle. INCHFurniture is not only focused on function & form, but also the sociological & ecological impacts it has on the world. In 2004 INCHFurniture partnered with a wood-processing technical college in Indonesia, located outside of a teak tree forest. INCHFurniture sustainably manages this forest in close collaboration with its local partner, teaches carpentry workshops & seminars, advises the college, and provides new jobs for the people of Indonesia. Join us during one of the few days Thomas Wüthrich will be in the U.S. to hear him speak about the firm’s extensive collection and their new form of economic globalization.

This event will take place at the Design Museum Boston.
