Peter Maurer has been active in international negotiations throughout his career as a Swiss representative at the United Nations, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)s. He brings to negotiation processes an astute understanding of the role of networks of influence in humanitarian diplomacy. He regularly participates in ICRC field negotiations, recently in Syria and Afghanistan, and is a recognized thoughtful leader on the challenges and dilemmas of the global humanitarian response. Under his Presidency, the ICRC is launching a Centre of Competence in Humanitarian Negotiations, which aims to become a key hub for the capture, analysis and sharing of experience among frontline negotiators.
