A special emphasis was placed on what sensors can offer in the context of global challenges. Speakers looked at the costs of developing and deploying these new monitoring technologies in both industrialized and developing countries and explored the use of sensor networks in the context of different application scenarios. They further focused on the correlation between air/water quality and population health.
