swissnex Boston at HUBweek
swissnexBoston is proud to be a collaborator of HUBweek. Founded in December 2014 by The Boston Globe, Harvard University, MIT, and Massachusetts General Hospital, HUBweek is a first-of-its-kind civic collaboration and weeklong festival that brings together the most creative and inventive minds making an impact in art, science and technology. For this year’s edition, from October 10 to 15, swissnex will participate with a very exciting project: the swissnex Dome!
Based on a concept by Geneva-based studio MySquare by François Moncarey and Ramona Altschul, the swissnex Dome is a fulldome structure that allows a 360° spatialization of images and sounds, taking the audience on a fully immersive experience. The giant dome, which will be situated in Boston’s City Hall Plaza – the HUB, HUBweek’s central location – will offer a 4-day intense public programming with fulldome projections, digital performances, cosmic yoga, panel discussions, workshops and more to be announced soon.
Connecting the dots is our motto!
The dome will serve as a platform to showcase the latest digital creations and will promote exchange of knowledge between Switzerland, the US and Canada. This spring we set out a call for Swiss fulldome film projects to be presented during October 12-15 at the HUBweek festival. The call for projects was a collaborative venture along with Geneva International Film Festival Tous Ecrans, Le D.I.X. creative space and studio MySquare, with the support of the City of Geneva, designed to foster exchanges in relation to Swiss digital creation and to get makers acquainted with VR and fulldome technologies. The criteria for the call was focused on projects either in pre-production or production by Swiss artists showing an interest in 360° technologies.
The top digital creators were selected and had the amazing opportunity to attend an immersive workshop on VR & Fulldome technologies led by Francois Moncarey of MySquare. The workshop was held in Geneva and gave artists the necessary skills for the 2k*2k film format.
NEST Immersion, a Canadian dome provider, will showcase their latest fulldome productions. We also teamed up with the Museum of Science and they will be presenting some of their custom creations made for their planetarium.
That’s not all – between screenings of the movies, the interactive Swiss touch table will boast a panel of experts to answer questions and promote discussion. The festival will serve as a way to connect innovators from abroad as well as the local landscape. Stay connected! Artists, entire programming and more partners to be announced soon!
