Swiss-US Energy Innovation Days hosted in San Francisco

swissnex San Francisco and the Swiss Federal Office of Energy are hosting an “in-to-out” journey bringing together the brightest energy minds from Switzerland and the US to discuss new technologies, services, and regulations that are disrupting antiquated paradigms in the energy industry.

The convergence of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with energy systems has sparked interest in energy technologies from tech entrepreneurs, researchers, and big-data specialists. In the San Francisco Bay Area / Silicon Valley region a creative search is well underway to find new technologies, business models and policies to aid in connecting homes, businesses and the electric grid, as well as electrical mobility.

The “in-to-out” approach of the Energy Innovation Days targets technologies and services IN the building, how those connect TO the outside world through smart technologies (including mobility), and how the OUTside energy infrastructure can support this paradigm shift in the way energy is produced and consumed. This includes discussing the emergence of “prosumers” and what this new interdependent consumer-utility model means for all stakeholders.

Participants in the Swiss-US Energy Innovation Days 2016 will meet with an international group of professionals from industry, academia, and government to identify current and future developments, new approaches, good practices and lessons learned in these fields. Taking a cross-disciplinary approach, the panels will discuss the merging of different technologies and critically examine their impact on the future energy landscape. The conference will also dig into the differing (and sometimes similar) energy approaches of the US and in Switzerland, sparking debate and cultivating relationships between Swiss and US energy experts.

The 2016 Swiss-US Energy Innovation Days is an initiative of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy produced in collaboration with swissnex San Francisco. Christian Simm, CEO swissnex San Francisco and Walter Steinmann, Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, will officially open the days on August 22, 2016.
